Blessed gifts in 2017

Finally, the year 2017 is coming to the end. It is time to update yearly news in this webpage. I entitle this page as "Blessed gifts in 2017". In this year, Allah Ta'ala gave me several precious gifts in my life: (1) my second daughter was born healthy on the middle of summer and (2) I was given opportunity to work in a top world class research group at Helsinki university, (3) I was also given very good friends in Finland.

Fatimah, another beautiful girl in my life

My second daughter was born on Ramadhan 1438 H, 3 June 2017. We named her Fatimah Nurrimadheni Zaidan. She was born in Jorvi hospital, Espoo.

Eid Fitr and Eid Adha 1438 H

Before our baby had reached a month old, we celebrated Eid Fitr 1438 H in Indonesian embassy, Helsinki. Two months later, we celebrated Eid Adha with Acehnese community in Finland by making sate.

A trip to Kirkkonummi

At the end of summer 2017, we joined an event organised by Ikatan Masyarakat Muslim Indonesia (IMMI), a trip to Kirkkonummi. This is a municipality located just outside the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, bordering the city of Espoo in the east.

Bye bye Aalto

This year has also become my last year working at Aalto University. I had a great working experience there, gained so much knowledge, especially in high performance computing and computational sciences and of course got the best friends. I received a beautiful gift: a Raspberry Pi 3.

SMEAR II research station

In the year of 2017, I was offered by Prof. Markku Kulmala, a notable Finnish scientist, to work as a researcher in Institute for Atmospheric and Earth system Research (INAR). This is a well-known institute dedicated on investigating atmospheric sciences as well as Earth system research. There are numerous scientific instruments installed in their research stations and laboratories as well as other fields around of the world through their research campaigns. Therefore, there is a need for sophisticated data analytic tools. That's why I was hired: to deploy modern data science, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning to enhance their scientific analysis and capabilities. The pictures below show one of their research infrastructure: Station for Measuring Ecosystem Atmosphere Relation II (SMEAR II) in Hyytiälä forest, about 300km north of Helsinki.

The last trip in 2017: Jyväskylä

At the end of the year, we had a chance to visit friends in Jyväskylä. This city is located in the western part of the Finnish Lakeland. It is the largest city in the region of Central Finland and on the Finnish Lakeland. The snow there is much thicker than Helsinki area. We really have had a great time there.

Looking forward to 2018

My daughters: Nacitha and Fatimah.
